Morges Market, Canton Vaud
Morges Market, Canton Vaud
The markets of Canton Vaud in western Switzerland are filled with the excellent produce, cheeses, and baked goods that characterize the whole Lake Geneva Region. Now that fall is on the way, the markets I’ve visited in Morges, Orbe, and Vevey (there are many more) will feature alongside typical produce, wild mushrooms, locally grown grapes, and the occasional truffle.
Over the next few months the villages of Canton Vaud will feature such food related events. On September 27, the village of Charbonnieres will hold the annual festival of its local Vacherin Mont d’Or cheese while around the same time there will be a grape and wine event in Fechy and open cellars in the wine-making village of Lutry. Two events not to miss are the annual truffle market in Bonvillars on October 31, and the once-every-25-years Fete des Vignerons in Vevey. The next one will take place in 2018, but start planning now!
